The classic 12 South house is a 1920s Craftsman bungalow with a deep front porch, square columns, a low-pitch porch roof and a front gable above it. The newer infill is the opposite problem. Tall-skinny duplexes have narrow, tall front elevations with steep gables and almost no horizontal run, so a display that works on a ranch house looks sparse on them. Those need vertical emphasis, column and railing detail, and often a lit tree to balance the frontage.
Access is the practical constraint. Narrow lots, street parking and short driveways mean a crew has to work tight and clean without blocking the street. We plan for that rather than discovering it on install day.

Planning the Install
Working a Walkable Street in December
The thing that makes 12 South different is the distance people view it from. On most Nashville streets a display is judged from a moving car at forty feet. Here it is judged from the sidewalk at six, by people walking down to the shops and restaurants on 12th Avenue South through the whole of December. That changes what counts as finished work.
At that range the details that normally hide are the whole job. Cord runs down a porch column, the point where a strand terminates at a gable end, the spacing of bulbs around a curve, whether the warm white on the porch matches the warm white on the roof. We hide leads behind trim lines, terminate runs where the eye does not land, and keep one colour temperature across the entire elevation.
Access shapes the schedule as much as the design. Narrow lots, street parking on both sides and short driveways mean a crew cannot spread out, so we work these installs early in the day and keep the truck footprint small rather than blocking a lane on a busy street.
